MouthScience Education Program Available to Oklahoma Teachers

Delta Dental of Oklahoma (DDOK) recently announced MouthScience, a free resource available to third through sixth-grade teachers in Oklahoma.

Created by Delta Dental of Oklahoma Foundation, MouthScience is a science program demonstrating why good oral hygiene, along with healthy food and drink choices, is important to overall health.

Previously, MouthScience was presented by DDOK employees. Now, the program has extended reach. Using a MouthScience kit, Oklahoma educators are able to present the program themselves, in their classrooms.

Kits for the MouthScience lesson provide educators with the tools they need to conduct Power of pH – an engaging, hands-on experiment that shows the levels of acid and sugar in common drinks.

Each kit includes pH strips, lab sheets, a gift card to purchase a variety of drinks, paper towels, small cups with lids, and step-by-step directions and illustrations for teachers. The kit also includes toothbrushes for teachers to share with students to encourage maintaining and improving oral health.

“The Delta Dental of Oklahoma Foundation produces and supports programs that provide oral health education to young people in Oklahoma,” said Delta Dental of Oklahoma Foundation Director Terrisa Singleton. “We know teachers play a key role in helping students understand why oral health is vital to overall health. We are pleased to offer this free program that educates students with fun, hands-on experiments.”
